AntiMcDonalds Day Slovenian Style

"A time has come, when we consider silence a betrayal.
That time is now!"

- Martin Luther King

The only Slovenian independent medium, Radio Student, has openly joined the worldwide struggle against McDonald's corporation.

We declared fuck/anti McDonald's Day on the radio and dedicated our morning and afternoon program to the Mcissues. We are proud to conclude that we did a hell of a job.

The programme involved interviews, jingles, statements, informations and ofcourse antiMcDonalds music. For example, we interviewed two Slovenian students, who worked at McDonalds. One of them insisted on going live on the air and she exposed some 'juicy' details about McFood. Then we talked with Slovenian representative of McDonald's and made the fool out of that corporate guy.

We also interviewed our friends from Serbia, who had organized a 'Food not bombs!' event in cities Novi Sad and Belgrade. Another activist gave us a very interesting report about the closure of a McDonalds restaurant in Serbia. (A month ago McDonalds closed a restaurant in city Zrenjanin, because it wasn't making any money since people didn't want to eat there.) MWR's activist really came through with great statements in our interview.

Also McLibel trial was well presented, but unfortuneatly we couldn't reach Dave Morris on the phone. Constant appeals, such as - 'Do not eat junk McFood!', were sent out through the programme. Also a survey was carried out amongst students about the meaning of October 16.

Some people from the radio went to McDonalds and succeeded in interviewing a couple of workers. Latest events of actions around the globe were taken from Dayofglobalaction web page and immediately reported on the air. The idea of antiMcDonalds Day performed on Radio Student was to highlighten our listeners about the problems McDonalds is causing for workers, animals, environment and its costumers (health issues), etc.

'Fuck off McDonalds' message was clear and loud. We are proud that on the day of worldwide resistance against this corporate beast we were a part of the struggle. We also congratulate everyone who has been and is doing actions against McDonalds. Fuck McDonalds! For the destruction of wage labour!
