A HOT FALL Our home bioregion and many other parts of British Columbia have been enjoying the hottest and driest summer on record. While this has meant some hardship for us domestically, with reduced water available for garden watering and so on, it has led to disaster for some as fires have raged out of control in many areas of the B.C. interior, homes have burned and hundreds of people have been displaced. We empathize with all the species that have lost their homes. With droughts on the prairies, too, it appears this may be a foretaste of climate change… The solution? – Check out Stormy Weather by Guy Dauncey, packed with 101 Solutions to Global Climate Change. Until the end of October, we are offering an unbelievable special discount for bulk copies of Stormy Weather so that all of you who want to use it as a Book Club text for your local reading group, or hand copies to legislators and municipal officials, or get groups started to work on this crucial issue can do so. For more on the discount schedule, click here. In other ways, the hot weather has also been gorgeous. In a political culture invested with having us forget our history almost as soon as it is made, it is vital that we all keep certain elements of the past alive. 9-11 was a human tragedy that deserves to be remembered in its own right. But it was also a political scandal – and remains so to this day. With the Bush administration seeking reelection next year, those who are working to bring about a full public inquiry into the events on and leading up to that fateful day need our support. We recommend the following two sources for further information: The 9-11 Truth Movement Carole Brouillet from the Bay area provides a valuable update. Global Outlook The Centre for Research on Globalization is a source of extravagant amounts of relevant material on 9-11 and its fallout. They publish Global Outlook edited by Michel Chossudovsky from Ottawa, Ontario, a regular magazine, containing articles on 9-11, Iraq, and more. You can find them on the web at: www.globalresearch.ca Michel Chossudovsky is also the author of War and Globalisation: The Truth Behind September 11, that argues convincingly that behind 9-11 was a military-intelligence ploy designed to rationalize the ‘war on terrorism’ as a war of conquest: a final march to the "New World Order" dominated by Wall Street and the US military-industrial complex.
